TampaWorks is an evening of original short plays set in Tampa
Bay. These scripts explore everyday life in the Tampa Bay area,
as well as local history and culture.
Join Stageworks Theatre for comedy and drama set in iconic Tampa
Bay locations including the Village Inn Pancake House, a
Nebraska Avenue bus, the Pinellas Memorial Pet Cemetery and
Bayshore Boulevard.
TampaWorks celebrates the Tampa Bay area as an fascinating
subject for dramatic work. And Stageworks Theatre will celebrate
the skills of local playwrights, actors, directors and crew on a
professional stage.
The plays featured in TampaWorks are created by members of
Stagewrights, a play development group hosted for the last 15
years by Stageworks Theatre. Stageworks has supported, produced
and commissioned works by local playwrights since 1987.
Stageworks Theatre's mission is to create theatre which
respects, ignites and celebrates the human spirit while
challenging the thresholds of intolerance and insensitivity.
Stageworks just got rave reviews for the Pulitzer Prize-winning,
"'Night Mother." The acclaimed, "To Kill A Mockingbird," is
onstage through April 1.
Along with its mainstage, Stageworks sponsors vital youth
outreach programs that use the power of live performance to
teach at-risk children about tolerance, empowerment, anger
management, AIDS, gang prevention, and African American History.
Join Stageworks for a celebration of the rich life and culture
of the Tampa Bay area.

Stagewrights is a play-development group sponsored by Stageworks Theatre and run by and for Tampa Bay-area playwrights. The goals of the group are to provide critical guidance and support for member playwrights as well as opportunities for readings and productions of plays developed by members of the group. In recent years, several members of Stagewrights have received staged readings and/or full productions of their plays by Stageworks and other local theatres.
Stagewrights meets twice each month, usually on the first and third Tuesdays. At the first monthly meeting, playwrights may bring up to ten pages of a script to be read and critiqued by the group. The second Tuesday is given over to more formal readings of completed drafts of an act or entire play, also followed by a talkback/critique. These readings are cast from a stable of local actors who donate their time and talent. Meetings and talkbacks are run by members of the group, including local playwrights and theatre artists such as Ed Stevens, Jeanne Adams, Jim Wicker, and Dick Budin, among others. Playwrights interested in joining Stagewrights, or actors interested in volunteering for readings, may contact the group at anna.brennen@stageworkstheatre.org
